London combines historic rated clubs that play in the London, Middlesex and Central London leagues with a big wave of free social chess nights in pubs, cafes, bars and public squares, so there is somewhere to play on almost every night of the week.
FourCorner Club
Free outdoor chess club in public squares with music. It is open to everyone from learners to grandmasters, and the Saturday sessions regularly draw 100-150 people.

A very popular Tuesday chess night that mixes chess with cocktails and DJ sets. It draws a young crowd of hundreds of players of all levels, up to about 280 on a busy night.

Chess CLondon (London Chess Club)
A big free weekly casual chess meetup open to all ages and levels. The Sunday sessions draw roughly 50-100 players, and you do not need to RSVP.

Reference Point Chess Night
A Wednesday chess ladder of 10-minute games in a library, bookshop and bar, with cocktails and music. The ladder pairs you with players of similar strength, and all ages and abilities are welcome.

A large, busy league club of about 250 members at the London MindSports Centre. Monday nights include junior, women's and adult-beginner hours before the main club night, so it suits everyone from beginners to titled players.

Battersea Chess Club
One of London's oldest clubs, founded in 1885, with a relaxed Tuesday club night and active league teams. It welcomes everyone from complete beginners to titled players.

Streatham & Brixton Chess Club
A strong, long-running south London league club. It runs a free, drop-in social chess session every Tuesday at Streatham Library that is open to non-members.
